Portledge in the Now.

Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month

We encourage all members of the Portledge School community to join us in celebrating AAPI Heritage Month and embracing the diversity that enriches our school environment. Together, let's honor the past, celebrate the present, and inspire the future as we recognize the invaluable contribution of the AAPI community.
Lower School Division: May 3rd
Our Lower School will be celebrating AAPI Heritage Month through a series of engaging activities aimed at fostering a deeper appreciation for diversity and literacy among our K-5 students. What we have planned is to introduce students to a variety of picture books authored and illustrated by AAPI creators. Through these captivating stories, we aim to spark interest in reading while also highlighting the rich tapestry of AAPI cultures. By exploring these texts, students will not only discover the beauty of different traditions but also uncover the delightful surprises hidden within the pages. We had a special assembly that took place on May 3rd, fostering a love for reading and cultural appreciation among our Lower School students.

Middle School Division: May 9th at the Town Hall Meeting
Our Middle School students will have the opportunity to delve into the world of performance art within the AAPI community in the United States. Through captivating presentations, they will learn about the achievements and impact of famous individuals in various forms of performance art, from music to theater and beyond. This event will take place at the Town Hall Meeting, offering our Middle School students a chance to appreciate the creativity and talent within the AAPI community.

Upper School Division: May 10th at the Town Hall Meeting
Our Upper School students, members of the ASA, have curated a similar experience focused on performance art within the AAPI community. They will gather at the Town Hall Meeting to learn about the influential figures who have made significant contributions to the arts in the United States. From renowned musicians to acclaimed actors and dancers, our students will gain insight into the rich tapestry of AAPI talent that has shaped American culture.
