Portledge in the Now.

Jewish American Heritage Month

The Jewish Student Union (JSU) is planning a number of activities this May in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month. Monday, May 6th, is Yom HaShoah, Holocaust Remembrance Day. The artwork accompanying this article was created by our club members in honor of Holocaust Remembrance Day.

On Friday, May 17th, we will host a special luncheon for Upper School students, during which our guest speakers will talk about surviving the Holocaust and becoming American citizens. On Thursday, May 16th, and Friday, May 17th, JSU students will lead presentations at the Middle School Town Hall and Upper School Town Meeting, respectively, to recognize the contributions of Jewish Americans and educate their peers on Jewish culture and traditions. Also on Friday, May 17th, members of JSU will lead a presentation at a special Lower School assembly to celebrate Jewish-American identity and showcase the places in the world from which members of our Jewish community have immigrated.

All of our recognition events during Jewish American Heritage Month highlight the resilience and achievements of Jewish Americans within and outside of our school community, in keeping with our Portledge pillars and commitment to our DEI principles.
