Important myPortledge information for Apple Users

Summary
Parents and Alumni who use their Apple accounts to log in to myPortledge may experience errors if “Hide my Email” is enabled.

Background
The Portledge web portal, myPortledge, uses Blackbaud ID (BBID) for identity management. Blackbaud ID has multiple authentication options: an email and password, or you can associate your log in with a service like Google or Apple.
Issue
For users who have opted to Sign in with Apple for their Blackbaud ID (BBID) and have either chosen the 'Hide my Email' option or have not actively switched to 'Share my Email,' it's crucial to understand the resolution process. When 'Hide my Email' is selected, a new BBID is generated for the user, complete with an Apple-generated concealed email address (typically ending with @privaterelay.appleid.com). This email is not linked to Portledge School or your permissions/access to myPortledge, resulting in a loss of system access. This leads to you having two Blackbaud IDs, one under their original email address and one under the @privaterelay.appleid.com email address. If you sign in with a concealed email, you will have a page stating, 'Looks like you accidentally hid your email.' To resolve this, you will be offered a choice to continue with the concealed email, restoring your system access.

Note: We cannot break the connection between the existing BBID and Sign in with Apple.

To resolve this issue, follow the 3-Part directions below to disable Apple ID Authentication:

Part 1
  1. Use Sign in with Apple ID to log into your Blackbaud ID user profile
  2. If you've landed on the 'Looks like you accidentally hid your email' page, click “Continue with hidden email.”
  3. In the tile for your Blackbaud ID, click the pencil icon in the top right corner
  4. Then select Disable Apple authentication
  5. Sign in to your Apple ID account again to verify your Apple ID account
  6. Enter a new email address. This should be an email address you have access to but have not previously used with Blackbaud ID. Your original BBID email will not be impacted by this change.
    Warning: You cannot use an email address that is already an existing Blackbaud ID.

  7. Confirm the new account by entering the 6-digit code that was emailed.
  8. Enter a new password for the Blackbaud ID, as well as first and last name if prompted.
  9. Click Confirm
  10. Then, using the icon at the top right corner, click to sign out of the Blackbaud ID page.
Part 2 
  2. Locate and click the Sign in with Apple tile
  3. Select the entry for Blackbaud in your list of connections
  4. Click Stop using Sign in with Apple
  5. On the pop-up prompt, select Stop Using
Part 3
  1. Return to Blackbaud.com and click Continue with Apple
  2. Enter in your original Blackbaud ID email
  3. When prompted, select 'Share my Email' and click Continue
You can confirm this issue is resolved by verifying that your email address appears accurate at the top left corner under your name and that the Blackbaud ID tile shows Authenticated with Apple. Additionally, you should check access to myPortledge. If you still do not have access to myPortledge after taking these steps and are no longer using a hidden email, please contact Portledge Support (Support@portledge.org).
