Portledge in the Now.

Lower School Buddy Program

Aidan Kiyashka
Mrs. Douglas, the Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, said this about Aidan and his work on creating a buddy system for his senior project, “Who wouldn’t want to be Aidan’s buddy? He is kind and honorable, respectful and purposeful, and the embodiment of the Portledge pillars. During his senior project presentation, Aidan shared that he had to create lesson plans to prepare for the mentoring sessions with the 4th graders, and he had to manage over 20 of his peers who volunteered to be mentors. He then acknowledged that it was challenging and he didn’t think he would ever become a teacher. Yet, Aidan has already taught the Portledge community so much. He has taught us how to be leaders, how to inspire others, how to take what he has learned and then pass it on to those coming after him, and how to do it all with a positive attitude and a smile. Aidan would be an outstanding teacher, and I would take any class that he taught!”
