Portledge in the Now.

Message from our Head of School

Thoughtful, active, and convivial, the Class of 2024 will be greatly missed by all. They have brought such joy and purpose to our community. Rightfully proud of their many accomplishments, this class will leave a strong, positive legacy at Portledge. This spirited group saw many changes during their time with us.
Our sincerest hope is that they leave us knowing that these changes were made for the good; these changes helped strengthen the school's academic reputation and enhanced the look of our bucolic campus, preparing them for college and life. While it may not be immediately apparent to all of them, each, in their individual and unique way, has shaped these changes and has themselves been shaped by the same changes along the way. However, one thing will not change - Portledge School will forever be their alma mater: their cherry blossom-adorned home.

As I had the privilege of speaking to the seniors yesterday, I was struck by the sheer impressiveness of their achievements. Prestigious institutions such as the University of Pennsylvania, Duke University, Barnard College, Georgetown University, New York University, Johns Hopkins University, and the University of California Los Angeles, among many other outstanding colleges, are fortunate to have them as part of their freshman class. Each student will carry with them the warmth of hugs from old friends and loved ones as they embark on their new journey. Congratulations to the Class of 2024 on their well-deserved success!

This is an annual and gentle reminder that the school is entering that crucial stage of reflecting, preparing, and planning for next year's Decennial Visit. Much work will be done preparing for the accreditation visit over the summer. In turn, I hope our students will continue to learn, read, and bring their whole selves to whatever opportunity they may take during the break. It is also vitally important to relax and restore ourselves during these coming months. These downtime spells help refresh our minds and prepare us for our next steps.

I wish everyone the happiest of summers and ask you to join me in congratulating our rising 6th graders for moving on to Middle School, our rising 9th graders for becoming Upper Schoolers, and our esteemed graduating seniors.

Lastly, my thanks to all of you - the parents - without whom Portledge would not exist. Your constant support is the strong foundation on which we build the education your children receive. This year has shown no lessening of that support, and we look forward to building new bonds with our incoming families in the fall and strengthening the current bonds we share as we welcome you back for our 60th anniversary year, the 2024-2025 school year.

Happy Summer!
