Portledge in the Now.

PYP Feb. 2, 2025

Welcome back to the Portledge PYP Corner! As we begin a new year, we are rejuvenated with enthusiasm and inquiry. Portledge Lower School continues to shine in its PYP Journey and is energized by the curiosity that our students bring to the classroom every day.
Continuing with Theme 3 “How The World Works”

Students are well underway in our current theme of “How The World Works.” This theme encourages students to explore scientific principles, the natural world, and how human understanding of these concepts drives innovation. From experimenting with forces and motion to examining the evolution of technology, students are engaged in hands-on, transdisciplinary learning that thrives off student curiosity. This theme is very exciting and allows students to make deep, real-world connections.

What Does the PYP Mean to Our Students?

To start the new year, I asked students to reflect on what the PYP means to them. Their genuine and thoughtful responses are a testament to why we do what we do.

  • “Our PYP helps us communicate our ideas and learn about people who make the world better.” - Jada Delgado-Alejo, 3rd Grade

  • “The PYP helps us learn in different ways than we usually would and it's more fun and exciting!” - Johanna Chitty, 4th Grade

  • “PYP shows us about the world and lets us learn things that we find interesting and what really matters.” - Aviva Disimile, 4th Grade

  • “PYP challenges us in many different ways.” - Nash Katz, 4th Grade

  • “PYP helps us represent the Pillars and visualize their meanings in order to live them every day.” - Freddy Van Pelt, 4th Grade

  • “PYP means to me that I get to come together with my friends to learn.” - Milo DiPietro, 4th Grade

  • “PYP is year-round learning that gets you prepared for life in a better, more fun way” - Sean Suzda-Kettani, 5th Grade

  • “PYP teaches us what you need to know for a better future.” - Zac Zukerman, 5th Grade

  • “PYP helps us prepare for the IB in Upper School.” - Maryum Chaudhary, 5th Grade

These reflections show how deeply our students are engaging with the PYP framework and making connections that extend beyond the classroom. Their responses highlight the impact that this program has had on their learning and growth and demonstrate how they are truly understanding the benefits of the PYP in promoting lifelong learning.

Thank you!

Thank you for your continued support as we begin another exciting chapter of learning and exploration. Let’s make this a year to remember!
