Game Recap Nov. 27

It was another convincing victory for the Portledge Varsity Boys Hockey team as they cruised to a 7-0 win over Rye Country Day School Monday evening at Beaver Dam. The boys, having just come off a 6-2 scrimmage loss to Delbarton last Tuesday, looked like the dominant team they were against Chaminade last Monday. With early goals from Tucker Corwen ‘21, Michael Stevens ‘20, and Brandon Chabrier ‘20, the boys were firing on all cylinders. As Coach Skarica said, “It was an important game for us, and we took advantage of this and got everybody involved in the game, not only getting the win but gaining some team chemistry and excitement.”

Once again, Vincent Salgado ‘19 led the way for the Panthers as he shutout RCDS for the first two frames. Freshman Justin Porrino ‘ 21 closed the deal as the two combined for 18 saves on 18 shots. Hunter Rossi ‘20, Vitaly Levvy’ 21, and Jeremy Wilmer ‘21 added goals for the team as well. Spence Evans ‘20 notched his first of the year before getting hit hard into the boards in the 2nd period. Despite the hit, the big sophomore told me he feels fine and can’t wait to play La Salle on Wednesday. The Panthers will need all hands on deck as they face off in their first league game of the season on Wednesday in Dix Hills. Coach Skarica spoke about the upcoming contest saying, “La Salle is a really tough opponent and we need to be ready to bring it, so tomorrow is a great day to get prepared for the game.” Can the shutout victory propel the Panthers against La Salle as the teams looks to take their first league contest of the year? We’ll find out Wednesday evening, game start time is 5:00 PM at Dix Hills Ice Rink.
