A Multilingual Approach to Music

This project demonstrates the specific nuances of language through music. Ishaan Srivastava has been teaching himself Japanese for the past few years. For his project, he wrote a song in Japanese, recorded himself, and produced the song with the purpose of examining the differences in meaning between the lyrics in both the English and Japanese languages and portraying the inherent values unique to each culture. The song, appropriately called Sakura, (Sa-ku-ra- short ku), or cherry blossoms, was inspired by the connection that Japanese culture has to cherry blossoms, as well as the Portledge campus.
